"While we have met some mothers who tell fantastic and untrue stories about their children and who do not understand them, we think they are very rare indeed. Rather, we have found mothers to be careful and sound observers of their own children, and they are, besides, absolutely stark realists."

H1N1

Was that the SWINE FLU we just went through????? You bet. Here are some tips for you who've not been infected!

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible not coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at using a Neti pot, but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton swabs dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C. *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Prenatal Vitamins Research

My Sister sent me this yesterday. I'm sure your help would be appreciated, and if you could refer friends, even better. Thank you.

Good Morning!

Below is a link to short survey on pre-natal vitamins my husband created for one of his business classes at Columbia. If you are a mother or are expecting and could would take just two minutes to fill it out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PS-- If you know of any other women who would be willing take this, please pass this on to them as well.

Someone got MUGGED!

Pictures aren't loading. Sometime, you're in for a treat....Scott style. haha! How is everyone? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the only people that check blogs anymore are the ones that have the updates sent automatically to them...through bloglines or GReader, but, thought I'd update you lucky few.

So, we are doing so good in our new home in Washington, Utah, though I never thought I'd live here. It is absolutely wonderful to be so close to both of our families, especially when we have so many younger siblings still at home. It is easy to say Yes, we will come to the choir concert, yes, we will come over for dinner; yes, we'll see you at the volleyball game; yes, we are excited for the upcoming basketball and wrestling seasons; yes, yes, yes, mom, we have room in our fridge for your yummy food!! and yes, I'll be right over for piano lessons. It gives me a natural high to be spending time with these younger brothers and sisters I feel I am just beginning to get to know. It's hardly given me time to adjust to the new neighborhood and make friends around here, though that has been a fun project too! What wonderful relationships are blossoming!

I am teaching 6 of my younger brothers and sisters on the piano right now; they are my only students, and they are awesome! I just applied to help out with day care at Gold's Gym. I'll keep y'all updated, but I don't think they're hiring quite yet. Other than that, Eliza, SeanD and I spend lots of time together at home, training for life! I guess that's what we are doing. That's how I feel, like I am helping them to learn every lesson in the book. It is quite an overwhelming job sometimes!! Sean is still working for the Youth Transport company as his only job, and it has been pretty slow. Still...he's been back and forth from a few fun places, such as Phoenix AZ, Milwaukee WN, and Chicago IL. Times are tight for us all, I know, and even though our savings have dwindled, we look forward to the blessings that haven't stopped coming. I really am amazed by how much we have, with the way we feel we need more money all the time. He is enjoying school a lot down here at Dixie State, and it keeps his little family happy.

Food for Great Thought

The following is a letter home from one of my cousins. I was so deeply moved and felt a great connection of spiritual strength from his studies, I asked if I could share.

Family and friends!
There once was a revolution in France. I don't know dates or details or even which revolution it was. All I know is the king was overthrown and his son, King Louie XVI, was taken by the revolutionaries. They understood the operation of the moral law and consequently exposed him to every form of depravation there is. He had constant immorality, vulgarity, and everything else evil thrown in his face. He had ceaseless opportunity to satisfy his every worldy desire, but he didn't. The revolutionaries finally asked him why he wouldn't crumble and partake of all the wordly pleasures surrounding him. He replied "I cannot do as you have asked, for I was born to be a king."
Wow! I'm going to go one step further and suggest that we cannot do as the world asks because we were born to be Gods! That's why we're here. To become like God. How merciful and gracious is He! He want's everbody to be as great as He is. How wonderful is his plan! And how great an opportunity we have to be a part of it. That we can go from where we were before our life on earth to being like God is amazing. And our agency is so important. God gave us the earth but it's his. He gave us our houses but they're his too. He gave us the air we breathe but it is his. He gave us our will, and it's ours. That's the only thing we really own. It's the only thing God doesn't have and it's the only thing he needs. Let us give it to him. GIve God your heart. He will mold it and give it back.
A big part of improving ourselves is our thoughts. When we serve with all our heart, might, mind and strength, it's the mind that is the hardest to control. If we can constantly focus our thoughts, great things will occur. An example from my life is the referral center here at the MTC. The first several weeks we had crummy experiences. Then we realized we needed to take it seriously. We constantly prayed and thought about the RC and how we wanted to get investigators. I went this last monday and got a guy named Atheist. Hardly a promising start. I almost didn't accept it. Turns out he was the most prepared person i've ever met. He's now an investigator and I have to go check my RC email to find out when we are meeting again. Not coincidently, his questions were immediately focused on what i had been thinking about all week.
My challenge to all of us, you and myself, is that we become conscious of our every thought. Acknowledge it and then ask yourself "is this worth thinking about? Is this a Godlike thought?" If not, kick it out. Let us do this together this week and feel the difference in the world around us. Remember, If you don't have something above you, you will succumb to what's around you.
Love you all,
I'm out of time,
Elder whiting

Ol' Slew Foot

Just hanging up some laundry in our sweet little backyard...and walking back inside to find my girl out of bed...and baby powder sprinkled over everything in her bedroom. I'm glad it will air out and vacuum up nicely. So much for everything we've taught Eliza about covering up her tracks. LOL

So, I finally got the newer Java version downloaded and updated so I can start indexing for Family Search again.

Well, when the application opened, a small window popped up with this message:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you know... Friendly Warning

Friendly Warning! Indexing is very addictive! Start at your own risk! We are not responsible for chiropractic bills due to excessive hours of indexing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My sister and I started laughing and thought this was so cute. If you have never taken the opportunity to do some indexing, I encourage you to start!
